The New Home, which premiered on HBO this past Sunday, has become the highest-rated scripted drama of the year so far, with its two-hour premiere averaging 1.85 million viewers.
That’s a huge increase over last year, when The Handmaid’s Tale was the No. 1 scripted drama.
But it’s still behind some other shows, including Homeland, Orange Is the New Black, and the upcoming debut of The Handmaiden, which has a new series order.
This is not to say that The New House is the top drama of 2018.
In fact, it has some big competition.
The CW’s new drama, Reign, has averaged a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 in the key demo, while the sophomore comedy, The Last Man Standing, has scored a 1 for its third episode.
(The new episodes of Reign are slated to air on October 15.)
But The New Handmaids is on top with viewers, which is more than twice what Reign managed.
“I’m happy with the numbers,” said co-creator Elizabeth Banks.
“There’s some real buzz in the marketplace right now.
That is a sign that people are paying attention to the show and watching the series, which are definitely on the rise.”
While The New New Home and Reign are both still airing, The HandMaiden, on which Banks also co-wrote, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
